1. Overview

AusOverwatch ("the Service") is built and operated by KangaBlue (kangablue.au). We are committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights.

2. No User Accounts

AusOverwatch does not require user registration or login. We do not collect personal information such as names, email addresses, or passwords.

3. Data We Collect

We collect minimal data necessary to operate the Service:

Server logs: Our hosting providers (Vercel and Render) may collect standard web server logs including IP addresses, browser user agents, and request timestamps. These logs are used for security monitoring and are retained according to the hosting provider's policies.
No cookies: AusOverwatch does not set any cookies or use local storage for tracking purposes.
No analytics: We do not use Google Analytics or similar tracking services.

4. Third-Party Services

AusOverwatch uses the following third-party services that may have their own privacy policies:

Google Maps Platform: When 3D Buildings are enabled, map tiles are loaded from Google. This is subject to Google's Privacy Policy.
CartoDB / CARTO: Map tiles are loaded from CartoDB servers for Dark and Light themes.
Esri: Satellite imagery tiles are loaded from Esri for the Satellite theme.
RainViewer: Weather radar tiles are loaded from RainViewer when the radar layer is enabled.
Windy: Webcam preview images and timelapse videos are loaded from Windy when viewing webcams.
WeatherAPI.com: Weather condition icons are loaded from WeatherAPI's CDN.

All other data (earthquakes, flights, fires, vessels, satellites, UV, air quality, warnings, traffic, energy, census) is fetched by our backend server and proxied to your browser. Your browser does not directly contact these APIs.

5. AI Briefing Feature

When you use the "Brief Me" feature, a summary of currently visible map data (counts, notable events, conditions) is sent to our server, which forwards it to OpenAI's API for processing. No personal information is included in these requests. The data sent consists only of aggregated geospatial statistics (e.g., "27 earthquakes, highest M4.2").

6. Data Retention

We do not store any user-specific data. All geospatial data displayed on the map is cached temporarily on our server (from seconds to hours depending on the data type) and is not associated with individual users.

7. Children's Privacy

AusOverwatch is a general-purpose informational service and does not knowingly collect information from children under 13.

8. Your Rights

Since we do not collect personal data, there is no personal data to access, correct, or delete. If you have concerns, please contact us.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected on this page with an updated date.
